THE MARTIN JENKINS TRIO: TRIBUTE TO THELONIOUS MONK

Wednesday 6th May, 2026

Room Five, Aylmer Square, White River Place, St Austell, PL25 5AZ

Join us for an intimate evening celebrating the music of Thelonious Monk.

A pioneer of modern jazz, Monk helped shape bebop in the 1940s with his distinctive harmonies, rhythmic creativity, and enduring compositions. He continued to push musical boundaries up until his death in 1982, leaving a musical legacy that revolutionised jazz.

John Coltrane defined Monk as “A musical architect of the highest level.”
Julio Cortázar, as “A bear investigating the hives of the keyboard.”

A longtime devotee of Monk’s music, pianist Martin Jenkins will lead this musical homage, joined by John Donnelly on bass and Pip Harbon on drums. This dynamic trio will bring the drive, momentum and shared insight into Monk’s distinctive musical voice, offering both longtime listeners and newcomers a chance to experience his remarkable music performed live.

Always a great evening of Live Jazz – and a “Star Raffle” for a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label Champagne!
