About Us

What we do:

Restormel Arts is a charity aiming to promote professional and amateur arts activity and to engage the local community as both audience and participants. In recent years we have organised –

A COMMUNITY PLAY – commissioned and promoted a community play “As Well Be Shot As Be Starved” based on the historic bread riots of 1847 in St Austell and performed by local actors and members of the local community at the Cellars, St Austell Brewery.

A COMMUNITY FESTIVAL – A community “Festival of Fun” bringing together professional  shows and amateur productions plus workshops, showcases, children’s events and a host of participatory activities in and around St Austell Town Centre. The Festival was supported by a wide range of organisations and sponsors.

ST AUSTELL BAY JAZZ – Seasons of contemporary jazz concerts, bringing some of the UK’s most exciting established and emerging jazz artists to St Austell, for concerts and workshops. Over the years these have taken place in the Cliff Head Hotel, Carlyon Bay, St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre, The Bosuns & Loveday’s in Charlestown & Heligan Gardens cafe. We are currently looking for a jazz venue that serves food. We also occasionally present jazz concerts at Chycara, Carnon Downs, Nr Truro.

OUTDOOR THEATRE – annual touring summer shows by Miracle Theatre  in the beautiful walled garden at Tregrehan House, St Austell.

KEAY THEATRE – In partnership with St Austell College Restormel Arts promotes events at the town’s 224 seat Keay Theatre.

CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP – Restormel Arts instigated the setting up of a Cultural Partnership in St Austell which has enabled over 40 local arts & community organisations to meet regularly to discuss ways to present and  improve cultural activity in the St Austell Bay area.
