Truro College Jazz Degree Ensemble

The BA (Hons) Contemporary World Jazz Ensemble was formed in 2007 by Jazz Pianist/Composer/Arranger Viv Rodd. As leader of the Jazz Degree taught at Truro College, Viv decided that this student ensemble would benefit hugely from students learning and understanding the many various disciplined learning techniques required in a bigger band setting. Once this learning becomes more familiar, the student can then focus on his/hers quality of performance within the ensembles framework.

The ensemble also acts as a perfect opportunity for aspiring arrangers to write, listen and learn, from the large and varied repertoire of arrangements made readily available.  

This 11 piece ensemble + 2 singers plays a wide range of music from swing, ballads, funk, latin to modern, world, contemporary, free jazz etc.

The ensemble (conducted by Viv) is already creating lots of interest in the Jazz community with standing ovations at recent concerts. In a short while, the ensemble will be playing at the St Ives Jazz Club for the third time. The energy and creativity of this first rate ensemble is an experience not to be missed.
